You Belong in Paris

You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris.
You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe. And who hopefully wont need to have the need to stab anyone while walking around.

And I love my fiancee... She's the most amazing person in my life.

And I finally scored over 200 in bowling. Fight the power.

Good bowling day. Talked to pro-shop dude, who gave me some free pointers while I bowled my first game. Gave Lisa some hints as well. My high game was a 189, which is the highest I've shot in quite a few years. My worst games were 129 and 136. I had 4 games 167 or higher. WTF. This whole hook thing could really end up working out. We stopped bowling after 6 games, cause she was tired, and my wrist hurts like 8 bitches on a bitch boat. (That's a lot, for people who don't watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force) But, all in all, I'm ok with pain. It's kinda fun.

We decided to go bowling again tonight. Lisa did GREAT. I was pretty happy with my scores. For now, just going to post the summary, until I get a database solution set up.

178 is the highest I've shot in years, and that game should have been a little higher, if I wasn't a tard. Lisa averaged higher than I've seen yet. Tomorrow, she gets a new ball, and I suspect she'll do even better.

Here's a blog from an un-named MS employee, and more than 500 comments from folks, a large number of whom are also MS employees...

Ok, night #2. After being moved around a couple times, we ended up next to 3 guys that were great bowlers. I did that "everyone likes Tim" thing and chatted with them a bit. One of them started giving me pointers. That was good and bad, since it was just like starting over. But he gave me some decent tips. I know am able to hook the ball a LOT more.

Cut, for her pleasure )

So, while the last day of games didn't mean much after changing so much about how I bowl, I learned a lot. I see good things ahead. There were 4 games each before these games, but the alley wasn't able to print them for us. We both did well though, with Lisa bowling between 100 and 105, and me bowling between 115 and 139. But, I don't remember details, so not going to count those...

Lisa finally took my advice and tried a heavier ball. She was using a 10 pound ball, and now is using a 12. It helped her a lot. Tomorrow, we'll talk to the pro shop about a new ball for her. She did so much better with the heavier ball, and will do even better when she's using a ball that's drilled for her. She did great today, and I'm really proud of her.

So, Lisa and I started bowling. We needed a bit more white-trash in our diet, and figured bowling would be a good addition. We started a while back, and had some fun. I was using a 12 pound full-fingered ball, which was fun to send down the lane at near light speed. I was averaging around 130 a game, with a recent high of about 170. After watching "good" people bowl, I realized that every one of them used a 'fingertip' ball, and used a hook shot. Wanting to eventually bowl a little better, I today started trying to hook the ball. Now I'm using a 15 pound fingertip ball that's meant to hook. What a pain in the ass that is. But, eventually I will be better.

So, I am going to start keeping track of our scores in LJ. Wish us luck. And don't laugh too hard.

Switzerland is amazing... We get up early and head into the heart of Lucerne. Everything is so clean, so organized, and polite. We go see the Lion Monument, that was created in honor of the Swiss Guard of Louis XVI. There are pictures. If you look, the inset carved into the rock in which the lion was created is shaped like a pig. That happened towards the end of it being created, because the guy that started it died, and they had a new guy finish it, and he wasn’t paid a fraction of what he was promised. Kinda funny. But the monument itself is pretty impressive, and moving. From there, a number of us take a nice bus ride through the Swiss country, to the base of Mount Titlis. We take 3 different kinds of tram - gondola – ski lift type things, to get to the top. Once up there, we take a ride on the Ice Flyer, which is a 4-person ski lift that speeds you across the top of the big glacier that caps Mount Titlis. That was a blast. The girls were a bit nervous, but came through it well. Headed back into the building that houses the restaurants and gift shops, and had a bite to eat. More pizza, actually. Once the group was back together, we head down the various transportation devices needed to get to the bottom, and get back on the bus. More windy roads back to Lucerne to meet up with the rest of the group that didn’t go up the mountain. All were pretty exhausted at that point, and went to bed after dinner.

Proposing is scary...

Did the usual wake up early/luggage/breakfast thing, and got on the bus. We headed down some windy roads, and ended up in a neat small town right on the Rhine river. We boarded a boat, and had a really nice ride down the Rhine, getting lots of pictures of the old castles and churches in the small hills that line the river, and the Lorelei Rock. The weather is cloudy and a little bit of rain, but not bad, more of a light mist. A great time was had by all.

Our bus meets us down river, and we head to Heidelberg. It’s Germany’s oldest university town, and there is a really nice old castle there. Now at this time, I’ve been carrying ‘the ring’ with me for days, waiting for the perfect time. Not that I knew what the perfect time would look like, but hey, at least I wouldn’t stick it in food and surprise her that way. See, when we were in England we had planned on going to Bath, and I was going to do it there at the Royal Crescent, but we figured there was only limited time in London, and there was much to see. So that plan was foiled. I then was going to do it on the London Eye on Friday (had planned on going there with Matt) but it was not a clear night, and he really suggested we try to do the Eye on as close to a cloudless night as we could get. Foiled again. Fie. So after a nice uphill walk to the castle in Heidelberg (and the easier walk down) we found a little pizza place in the main square. Got some food and soda, and it started raining lightly again. There were still lots of people in the square, and I considered including them all in the proposal, but decided against it. We were walking slowly back to the bus, looking at the neat buildings and I saw the random sculpture thing in the smaller square, so we went to go take pictures of it. We do that, we’re tourists.

While we had been eating pizza, I had been telling Lisa how wonderful she is, and other nice things. Once we got to the sculpture in the smaller square, I was determined to propose there. Beautiful small town, a light mist in the air, etc. Seemed right. So, as she has mentioned in one of her posts, I proposed. She said yes, was happy, cried a little, all the things a girl should do I guess. I’m very new at all this.

We got back to the bus, and she told lots of people on our tour, and everyone was very happy for us. Nicky announced it over the bus intercom system, and everyone cheered. All in all, quite successful. Can’t even tell you how good it felt to have it done. Not that I didn’t enjoy the whole thing, and I know that I was pretty much assured a “yes” it was still really, really stressful. So now I have a fiancé, and I’m thrilled.

We then headed the 330 miles to Switzerland. More beautiful sites in Germany, but none of it compared to Switzerland. That place is amazing. We got into Lucerne in the evening, and checked into our hotel. It’s a great little place, probably 30 rooms total, and our tour had most of them. It was fairly late after we all had dinner, so we stayed in the hotel, and had an amazing evening with some folks from the tour. We had the 2 Irish couples (that live in Australia now), an Australian couple, a couple from Texas, and Lisa and myself. Continually amazed with the quality of people on this tour…
